Servant of God, Father Michael J. McGivney, to whom we owe so much.

Today we thank you to the thousands of priests throughout North America, Europe and Asia who, as loyal Knights of Columbus, have done so much to help our Order to grow and thrive.

Today, we say thank you to every parish priest. With our gratitude comes a promise and a commitment of a new solidarity in the work of renewal for our parishes, so that the world may know its most precious reality: Vivat Jesus!¡±

When 29-year-old Father Michael McGivney formed a group of Catholic men to defend family, country, and faith, America was steeped in anti-Catholic sentiment.  It was also an anti-immigrant era, aimed especially at Irish and Italians.

On March 29, 1882, the Knights of Columbus was chartered as a Catholic organization for men, among whose charitable endeavors was a life insurance program for widows and orphans of deceased members.

On March 29, 2007, Supreme Grand Knight Carl A. Anderson delivered his remarks on the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the Knights of Columbus. He said, in part, ¡°¡[L]et us all rededicate ourselves to Father McGivney¡¯s dream: Every parish must have an active Knights of Columbus presence, and every parish priest should see in the Knights of Columbus his strong right arm to lead a renewal of parish life.

Today we say thank you to a special parish priest, the

By now, I am sure you have heard, at least is passing, about one of our newest programs at Church of the Risen Christ, ¡°That Man is You!¡± I have heard it described as a Bible study, a prayer group, and a men¡¯s group. So, what is it? Well, I guess it is a little bit of all those things and so much more.

All of us, mo matter how great our spiritual life, are in need of a little help

sometimes. When my daughter hangs upside down on the monkey bars she tells me, ¡°Things sure look different from here.¡± We all need to take a look at our lives from a different angle to give us a fresh perspective. That Man is You! Is designed to do exactly that. As the founder of the program, Steve Bollman says, ¡°Wherever you are in your spiritual life, Jesus Christ wants to en

counter you right there and take you further. ,The program is made up of a Spring and Fall session. We meet on Wednesdays for 13 weeks in each session. We meet at 5:45 AM  for breakfast. At about 6:00 AM the program begins with a prayer and media presentation which lasts about 30 minutes. The media presentation is followed by small group discussions. We are done by 7:15 or earlier in plenty of time for the men to get to work.

Happy 125th Birthday, Knights of Columbus!
